Mens’ Association

Mens' Association

We aim to organise a varied range of activities for men, of all ages, from the village and surrounding area. We try to provide a mixed programme to suit all ages and interests including talks, visits and activities, as well as social events including the annual Bar B Q and Treasure Hunt which are open to friends and families.

We hold meetings monthly., usually the last Monday evening in the month. Check out what we are doing at our next meeting.

The association is open to men living in Normanton on Soar; ex residents who have moved away and others who may wish to join. The annual membership fee is still only £5. Guests pay £2 per visit (or can of course join).

If you want to know more, contact the Chairman, Neil Blythe, Tel: 01509 843825 or any member of the committee. We're always glad to see new faces!

Men’s Association Committee Members

We much regret that, due to current restrictions, we have had to cancel the meetings on Tuesday 11 August, Monday 28 September, Monday 26 October and Wednesday 25 November. We are hopeful that guidelines might change and allow us to hold these meetings. If they are reinstated we will publicise the changes as widely as possible.

Village Choir

Village Choir

Normanton on Soar Village Choir was founded in 2005 and now boasts around 25 active male and female members who rehearse on Monday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm in St James' Church, Normanton. Choir Mistress Margaret Bishop leads the group accompanied by Brian Archbold.

Although the Choir rehearse in the church they are not a church choir, but do sing at the 9.30am Morning Service in St. James, Normanton, usually on the first Sunday of each month. They also perform at a variety of events including weddings, baptisms, fetes and other occasions. The Choir has a wide repertoire, from Rutter to Andrew Lloyd Webber.

New members of all ages are always welcome and there is always a shortage of male voices. If you think you would like to join the choir please contact either:-

Margaret Bishop. Tel: 01509 672662 - or email margibish1@gmail.com or Brian Archbold. Tel: 01509 842341

No Litter or Dog Mess Please

No Litter or Dog Mess Please

Please take you Litter, and Dog Mess, home
The Parish Council has received complaints regarding the amount of litter being dropped in the village, especially by children. We would like to ask residents not to drop litter and to please use the bins provided.

Anyone wishing to report litter dropping incidents should contact the ParishClerk.

It needn't be this way - Let's keep the Village tidy

Gill Hilsdon and a team of volunteer litter pickers are doing their bit to keep our village free of rubbish.

We can all help by taking our rubbish home (that includes dog walkers please), but if anyone would like to join Gill more volunteers would be most welcome.

For more details please contactthe Parish Clerk

Timetables

May Day

May Day was always rather special in Normanton on Soar. Traditionally villagers gathered together at the Annual May Day event, held on the Bank Holiday Monday.

The day started with a Fancy Dress Parade through the village, followed by judging of the best costumes. Thereafter people just enjoyed themselves, taking the opportunity to participate in Games and Sideshows.

In 2007/8 it was not possible to hold the celebrations because of work on the new Village Hall, but in 2009 and 2010 it was back, thanks to the hard work of a group of dedicated villagers. In 2012 May Day was held at The Boat Club.

Since then there have been no events. Maybe one day it will return.
