Women’s Institute
The Women’s Institute is the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. It exists to educate women to enable them to provide an effective role in the community, to expand their horizons and to develop and pass on important skills.
Normanton on Soar WI is part of the Nottinghamshire Federation of Women’s Institutes. We usually meet on the first Tuesday of every month. Meetings are held in the Village Hall, opposite the Church in Main Street. Meetings start at 7.30pm, and there is a speaker or demonstration at most meetings, covering a wide range of topics and interests. Above all we aim to have fun and enjoy each other’s company. We welcome new members wherever they live, but particularly focus on ladies who live in Normanton on Soar and Sutton Bonington. Guests are always welcome at meetings – come along and “try before you buy”. We charge non-members £4.00 per meeting

We are one of five institutes in the local area forming the Soar Valley Group of WIs. The other institutes are East Leake, West Leake, Gotham, and Costock. The whole group comes together for a meeting each year in the Spring and we also hold a group carol service in December.
Membership of the WI allows you to get involved in a variety of activities organised locally, by the County Federation , and nationally. The national subscription for 2019 is £41.00, which includes a personal copy of the magazine "WI Life" sent to you three times a year. The WI has its own residential adult education college near Abingdon in Oxfordshire, and several of our members have learnt a range of new skills through attending courses there. Members regularly participate in the walks undertaken by the Ladies Walking Group and we have occasional organised trips to places of interest suggested by members.
Further details about the WI and the forthcoming programme of meetings can be obtained from the Secretary Sue James
